It’s Called Accountability

Yet again, there is another post on my Facebook saying something along the lines of:

“We’re praying America finds God. Do you agree?

Type Amen if you do!”

Now, I know I’m opening up a huge can of stinky worms here but … I couldn’t really give a shit right now.

I’m all for people having faith. That is your choice and I fight for your right to have that choice. But reading some of the comments on that post and others has me with only one thing to say …

Why don’t we all just finally take responsibility and try to fix things ourselves rather than hoping some higher power (because they obviously believe there is one) will fix it for us?

Thank you,

  1. Most people prefer to pray because that makes it look like they’re doing something when they’re doing nothing at all. Try asking all those that typed ‘amen’ if they really did pray and what exactly they prayed for. I bet that would be interesting if you could get honest answers.

    • Exactly. I’m not religious, at all. Not atheist. I just don’t give a shit. I get why some people have faith, and as I said, that is their right and I would never want to take that away. I just hate that they’d rather clasp their hands together asking for Tommy’s health to get better than take Tommy to see the doctor.

  2. Maybe a better prayer would be – I’m praying for America and asking for some direction on what I can do, one small (or large) action at a time, to make it a better place. I believe in action, and asking for help in making as positive an impact as I can in my place in the world.

  3. Posts of that matter make my right eye twitch! I’m frustrated by the ignorance of the people who create these posts, but I’m even more frustrated by the comments of those with opposing views. All of the scientific evidence in the world will not change the minds of those who have already made up their mind. It’s all just a fruitless waste of negative energy. Agree to disagree, and then move on for Christ’s/ Allah’s/ The Endless Void’s sake.

  4. I get your frustration with posts like that. I particularly dislike those ones that say share this and within a few days you get money or some such ilk.
I expect though you understand that for some their religion is real and they believe the world would be a better place if everyone was a believer the same as they are. It’s true in a sense, wars have been and continue to be wrought be those of different faith.
I suspect that you have much in common with the 14th Dalai Lama who said “Happiness is not something ready made. It comes from your own actions”

Also, I apologize if this offends you but indiscriminate swearing in a blog just appears juvenile. I know you are not juvenile, and probably you have a large vocabulary. Sayings like I don’t give a sh*t have an emotional impact sure but to me it sounds childish. I think you are more of a writer than that.
In any case, that is my penny’s worth and I hope you receive it positively as that is the way I mean it.

    • Thank you for the comment and feedback. I understand exactly where you’re coming from in regards to swearing. I try not to at the best of times, but occasionally it happens. There are times I do feel entirely infantile though so that might factor into it.
